What is Catholic Charities' relationship to the Diocese and the Bishop's office?
- Catholic Charities is the professional human services arm of the Diocese of Stockton. Catholic Charities is a related but distinct public benefit nonprofit corporation. Bishop Blaire is the President of Catholic Charities.
Do you have to be Catholic to receive services from Catholic Charities?
- No. Catholic Charities believes in the inherent dignity of each person and creates services that support families and enhance the quality of life for all members of the Community regardless of race, age or religion.
How does an individual become eligible for Catholic Charities' programs?
- One simply expresses his or her need. Catholic Charities does not discriminate against anyone. We are here to serve the needs of the community regardless of race, age, religion, or ability to pay. We help both citizens and non-citizens alike.
How is Catholic Charities funded?
- About 49% of our funds come from contracts with local counties, the Federal Government and the State of California. Foundation grants and United Way contribute 24%. Client fees are 6%. Contributions from donors make up 21% of our budget.
Do you charge for your services?
- Some programs do have fees associated with them, but if an individual is unable to pay, we will reduce or waive these fees.
Where can I get these services?
- Catholic Charities has an office in Stockton, which serves San Joaquin County. The Modesto office serves Stanislaus County. The Mother Lode office in Sonora serves Alpine, Calaveras, Mono, and Tuolumne counties. Not all programs and services are available at all offices.
