Creating Public Policy

We encourage and invite belivers to reach out and care for those most in need, to pursue peace and to advocate for all who live in the community of the human family.

Catholic Charities has an interest in creating public policy that protects the vulnerable and provides opportunities for poor persons to meet their own human needs. The Church can effectively shape a public policy that is more caring and just when many of our Catholic people, including our teenagers, are communicating their views to elected officials.

In July 2008, a broad coalition of San Joaquin County's religious leaders met with Senator Michael Machado, D-Linden, and Assemblyman Greg Aghazarian, R-Stockton, and later with the editorial board of The Record, to present a signed statement outlining a "moral budget."
