Golden Agers For Progress

Mission Statement
To Support development of an active constituency of senior citizens that will advocate for the needs of the growing elderly, underserved population.

The senior population (over 65) will increase 150% - 200% by 2015. As the number of seniors continues to increase, services and resources to meet their needs decreases, creating an ever widening GAP in assistance.

Golden Agers for Progress (GAP) is comprised of a strong network of senior residents from Stanislaus County, San Joaquin County and the two Mother Lode counties of Tuolumne and Calaveras. Through research, education, action and advocacy, seniors from all walks of life join in a common goal to “mind the GAP” and narrow the disparity in services versus the numbers who need them.

From the very truth that the elderly are part of God’s creation, they possess wisdom for their many years we must respect, value we must honor and dignity we must protect. Yet everywhere seniors face the ever increasing challenges of deteriorating health, healthcare access, physical and financial abuse, isolation and loneliness, dependency, transportation limitations and the list goes on…

“Minding the GAP” is the focus of seniors doing something to make improvements for themselves and other seniors. They are “seniors helping seniors”.

This project was made possible through the generous contributions of The California Endowment and Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
