Each year Catholic Charities provides services for nearly 70,000 people in need in Alpine, Calaveras, Mono, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne counties - the geographic area of the Diocese of Stockton. Our programs and services help people in every stage of life - children, youth, families, and elders.
The San Joaquin County offices are located at 1106 North El Dorado Street in Stockton.
Services for Children and Families
Children’s Health Initiative
Catholic Charities works with area churches, community centers, hospitals, school districts and other organizations to locate, register and maintain eligible children on Medi-Cal, Healthy Families or Healthy Kids programs.
Emergency Food Program
The Emergency Food Program provides a temporary solution to hunger. With the bountiful food supplies available in the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley, we believe that no one should go hungry. Catholic Charities' Stockton office supplies a box of nutritious food to 250 families each month and provides enough groceries to prepare over 67,000 meals for needy families each year.
Mission for Marriage for Life
Through a grant from the California Healthy Marriages Coalition, the
MML program teaches couples how to be better communicators, gain
knowledge, and build relationship skills to transform their marriage.
It is the goal of the program to train couples throughout the Diocese
to become leaders of MML groups in their parishes.
Prenatal Care Program
The Prenatal Care Program is an outreach program that provides encouragement and support services to pregnant women (girls) who may not have the resources to seek appropriate prenatal care for themselves or their unborn babies. This program has been funded by Catholic Health Care West and First Five of San Joaquin.
Services for Seniors and Caregivers
Ten Tips to Help You Reduce the Risk of Financial Elder Abuse
Caregivers Respite
We assist caregivers of the frail, elderly seniors suffering physical and or mental disabilities (Alzheimer's Disease, senile dementia, or those who are bedridden and should not be left unattended). We provide a Respite Care Worker to stay with the dependent senior so that his/her caregiver can take a temporary break from the caregiving situation. Respite care services are provided directly in the client's home.
Home Modification Program for Caregivers
The purpose of this program is to facilitate safety and to ease the task of caregiving in the home, by providing the caregiver with practical tips and assistance on setting up the care recipient's living environment, making minor modifications to the home and by supplying and installing various adaptive equipment which would help the caregiver do his/her job just a little easier.
Homemaker Services (Housekeeping)
This program provides services to seniors who are in need of assistance with housekeeping (i.e. light housecleaning, cooking, laundry).
Personal Care
This program provides non-medical assistance to seniors who need help with personal care (i.e. bathing, dressing, shaving, toileting). We do not provide nursing care (i.e. wound care, glucose testing, incontinency care, administer medication). Clients must be able to lift or transfer themselves independently or with only minimal assistance.
PG&E "Calling All Seniors" Telephone Reassurance and Friendly Visiting
This program provides services to seniors that help prevent loneliness and isolation. It provides assurance and support through telephone calls by our trained volunteers. These services are provided in order to assist seniors in maintaining their independence and quality of life, not only by addressing their physical needs but their emotional needs as well.
Immigration Services
Immigration: Family Reunification
Provides assistance to immigrants through low-cost professional and confidential immigration counseling and legal immigration services leading to family reunification.
Immigration: Naturalization
Provides low cost consultations, legal counseling, and tutoring services to assist legal permanent residents achieve US citizenship each year. These services are provided by two case consultants accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals.
